Why LUTs Change Everything in Your Edit
A LUT (Look-Up Table) instantly transforms the color mood of a video. Whether you're shooting on a smartphone or a cinema camera, applying the right LUT can turn a flat, raw clip into footage that looks like it belongs in a feature film — in seconds rather than hours of manual grading.
1. Identify Your Style Before You Search
Before you even open your editing software, ask yourself: what emotion do you want to convey?
- Cinematic / teal & orange: ideal for short films, ads, and narrative content
- Vintage / film-inspired: perfect for lifestyle vlogs and nostalgic content
- Natural / clean: recommended for weddings and events where accurate skin tones matter most
- Vibrant / social media: saturated colors designed to grab attention on TikTok and Reels
2. Check Software Compatibility
Not all LUTs work the same way across editing software. Make sure the pack you're buying includes .cube files compatible with Premiere Pro, DaVinci Resolve, Final Cut Pro, and After Effects — as all our LUT packs do.
3. Color Space Matters
A LUT designed for Log footage (like S-Log or V-Log) won't produce the same result on footage already shot in Rec.709. Choose packs that clearly state the target color profile, and always test on a short clip before applying it to your whole project.
4. Don't Be Afraid to Adjust Intensity
A good LUT is just a starting point. Lower the layer opacity to 70-80% if the look feels too strong, and add a basic color correction pass before applying the LUT for more consistent results shot to shot.
5. Test Before You Buy in Bulk
Look for packs that offer a free sample or video previews. This helps you avoid surprises and see how the LUT actually renders across different skin tones and lighting conditions.
Our Recommendation
If you're just starting out, go for a versatile pack covering multiple styles rather than one heavily stylized LUT. This lets you adapt your visual identity project by project without buying new content for every shoot.
